ROYAL VISIT THURSDAY OCTOBER 18th, 2001
After attending a meeting at the offices of the Vlaamse Visserij Coöperatieve at the new fishing port of Zeebrugge, about the economic aspects of the fishery industry, King Albert and Queen Paola together with provincial governor P. Breyne, mayor of Bruges P. Moenaert and Flemisch minister of environment, agriculture and fishery Mrs. Vera Dura, brought a short visit to the Seamen Centre.
The King and the Queen conversed with the personal and the many volunteers. The King showed great interest in the free daily bus service for seafarers from ship to seamen centre.
The royal visit inspired the many volunteers with courage to continue their good work.
After concluding the visit, the guests left for Bruges where they attended an academic session on the subject of Sports Medicine at the AZ St. Jan.
